Sadly my Frankfurt Light and Build experience was cut comically short this year due to strikes, but it wouldn't be a L+B without some sort of transport chaos, right?

It was great to catch up with so many people in such a short space of time (one late afternoon and the evening). It's really something to have an entire industry in and dispersed around one city for one moment every two years.

In starting my own studio (more on that soon), I want to try and do small incidents of creativity to make our days on this planet more interesting.

Handmaking business cards with watercolours and my new stamp maker is one of them. Embedding philosophical stories, fables and musings in the graphics really excites me.

These first ones draw on Goethe's colour theory and his observations through viewing light through prisms.

He was highly critical of Newton and saw him as only looking to categorise colours, rather than reading a little deeper.

He taught that colours are born at boundaries where light meets dark.
You see it in prisms and you see it in the sky where day meets night.

Goethe saw colours as live, livings processes - think how sunsets are born and fade…

As someone who works with light creatively, this is exactly the type of thinking I feel is important, to lean in, explore and sense how things feel, shift and change over time.

And since everything is digital and even more so prompted now, I think handmade watercolour cards and stamps are the way to go - if purely for the fun and enjoyment of a moment shared.
(Even to think a little further than the classic Pink Floyd cover in this instance)

So for each event I'll make new ones and let the format evolve naturally over time….

Plus stamps are so fun!

If you want to learn more about this, here is a seriously retro, very chill docu on the topic:
